At the age of 8, the author experienced a life-changing accident that saw him lie in a coma for two weeks, after which he was left paralysed and unable to speak. The doctors gave him a 30% chance of survival, and said that even if he did live, it was likely that he’d spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, and with limited cognitive abilities.
