Over the Hills and Far Away is a collection of chronological military stories that begins with an Australian soldier's journey across the sea to the Wylye Valley in the Great War and ends with the experiences of a doctor in Iraq in 2003. It takes the reader to the trenches, the desert and the jungle; to the battlefield and into the urban landscape of Northern Ireland during 'The Troubles.' It is not about any one place, or any particular war, it is a collection of soldiers' stories told in their own words.
